Our Performance

In Financial Year 2018, Pickles sold 80,000+ vehicles, $513m of transport and construction equipment and 130,000 salvage vehicles, exceeding a gross turnover of A$2.7 billion.

Our major clients include financial institutions, restructuring and insolvency professionals, Australian government, State governments, local councils, fleet and lease companies, insurance companies, banks and not-for-profit organisations.

Our Team

Bruce Connors – Director Industrial

With over 30 years’ experience in the auction industry, Bruce has extensive knowledge of transport, construction, hire fleets, aircraft, mining, marine and manufacturing assets. He currently holds the position of Director – Industrial, overseeing all aspects of the Industrial department nationally, including trucks, machinery, plant & equipment, onsite auctions, general goods, IT equipment, and all valuations conducted by Pickles team members. Bruce is a member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA)

Marc O’Loughlin – ASA (M&TS), AVAA

Marc has over 18 years’ experience in providing valuation and advisory services to various clients, including all forms of government, legal and accounting practitioners and the banking and finance sectors with experience across a wide range of plant and equipment assets.

Marc is tasked with overseeing the valuation business unit nationally, developing internal procedures and policies, and ensuring compliance and standards are maintained, whilst also providing valuation advice to various team members and external clients.

Dual accreditation is held by the American Society of Appraisers (M&TS) and the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia.

Gavin Dempsey – National Manager, Finance, & Advisory

Gavin has over 25 years’ experience specialising in delivering sales and valuation services to the banking, insolvency and finance industry.

Gavin has worked on major asset dispersal & valuation projects across Australia and Asia Pacific including mining, aviation, marine, transport, construction & manufacturing. Gavin has been instrumental in developing advanced appraisal courses to ensure the Pickles Advisory team is at the forefront of industry and market trends.

Dual accreditation is held by the American Society of Appraisers (M&TS) and The Australian Property Insitute (P&M)

Grant Barrie – ASA (M&TS) Accredited Senior Appraiser – AAPI (P&M) Certified Practising Valuer

Grant has over 10 years’ experience in the Auction and Valuing Industry where he has developed a broad experience of plant and equipment including trucks and machinery, marine & recreational, aviation, and specialised equipment.

Grant is certified by the Australian Property Institute as a Practising Valuer of Plant & Machinery as well as being accredited by the American Society of Appraisers as a Senior Appraiser of Machinery & Technical Specialities. Grant also holds both a Queensland Auctioneers licence and Motor Dealers licence.

Hugh Rainger – National Manager, Trucks & Machinery

Hugh has over 16 years’ experience in the auction and valuation industry ranging from real estate to livestock, to heavy earthmoving and transport equipment through to antiques and specialised plant.

Conducting auctions and valuations nationwide on behalf of federal, state and local governments, insurance companies, insolvency practitioners, finance companies and many large private fleet operators, Hugh specialises in providing customised remarketing solutions for national financial and corporate customers.

Nick Johnson – National Operations Manager, Industrial

Nick has over 15 years’ experience in the auction industry. Nick has been involved in hundreds of sales, ensuring logistics, WH&S and risk assessments requirements at Pickles and or associated sites are completed and maintained in a thorough and professional manner.

Currently holding the position of National Operations Manager – Industrial, Nick oversees all operational aspects of the Industrial department nationally; this includes trucks, machinery, plant & equipment, general goods, IT equipment, onsite auctions, and all valuations conducted by Pickles team members.

Kim Adams

Kim has over 30 years’ experience in the property valuation industry with both the private and public sector. Kim joined Pickles in 2014 as a registered property valuer to focus on the valuation of land, buildings, and infrastructure complementing our plant and equipment valuers.

Kim’s expertise is valuing assets for financial reporting purposes. He has provided consultancy advice to clients for developing asset registers and methodologies for valuing highly specialised assets. He is fully experienced in preparing valuation reports consistent with applicable accounting standards notably AASB 13: Fair Value Measurement and AASB 116: Property, Plant and Equipment.

Kim is an associate member of the Australian Property Institute (AAPI), a certified practising valuer (CPV),  an M&TS accredited Senior Valuer and a registered value in QLD and WA.

Nigel Spoljaric – Senior Valuer

Nigel has over 20 years of valuation experience and conducts many forms of market valuations, liquidation matters and Government valuations under the relevant AASB standards. Nigel is also a fully licensed auctioneer conducting auctions of motor vehicles, truck and machinery and personal property, including art and antiques.

Prior to joining Pickles in 2008, Nigel held a valuer position within the Australian Valuation Office (AVO) and has completed valuations for numerous Government clients, such as Centrelink and the Australian Taxation Office.

Most recently Nigel was required to write the methodologies and value National Film and Sound Archives’ film collection and rare artefacts. Other recent projects include the Department of Environment, including the Antarctic Division, and the Australian Sports Commission revaluation tasks.

Nigel has a member of AAPI, P&M, AVAA certified and a Licensed Real estate and Stock and Station agent.

Brendan Ryan – Senior Valuer

Brendan has 28 years’ experience in the plant and equipment valuation industry with substantial experience in providing valuations for company reporting, insolvency, asset finance and insurance. Brendan has project managed major valuations throughout Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. Brendan is an accredited senior appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers (ASA).

Stewart Dodwell – NSW Manager, Finance & Insolvency

Stewart has over 14 years’ experience specialising in delivering asset sales, valuation and project management services to the Banking, Restructuring and Advisory sectors. Stewart leads our NSW Finance & Advisory team and works closely with restructuring and finance specialists assisting businesses with asset disposition, debt restructuring, asset valuation, asset purchase and valuation requirements. Prior to joining the Auction Industry Stewart worked at one of Australia’s leading capital finance companies in their Asset Management team, managing a diverse range of assets and conducted numerous plant and equipment valuation.

Stewart has completed his American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and holds accreditation as a Certified Practicing Valuer & Auctioneer with the AVAA.


James Chauncy (ASA) – QLD State Manager, Industrial

James has been with Pickles for over 10 years with a strong focus on both NSW & QLD. James has extensive knowledge of the Transport, Civil Earthmoving & Mining Industries with a drive second to none to ensure the vendor obtains the best possible outcome. James has had exposure to large fleet acquisitions and has provided advisory services to large fleet operators throughout the country across many different asset classes. He has a strong sales and customer focus and understands the true affect asset values can have on a business. James’ passion and energy are often showcased on auction day as one of the senior auctioneers of the company and is known to maximise returns to the client through creating an atmosphere like no other. James is an accredited appraiser and valuer with the American Society of Appraisers (ASA).

Andrew Harris (ASA) – Senior Account Manager/Senior Valuer, Industrial

Andrew has over 11 years’ experience in the auction and valuing industry ranging from heavy earthmoving and transport equipment through to antiques, furniture and specialised machinery. He has conducted valuations on behalf of federal, state and local governments, insurance companies, insolvency practitioners, finance companies and many large private fleet operators.

Andrew is a certified member of the ASA (American Appraisers Association).

Andrew Currently holds the position of Senior Account Manager/Senior Valuer – Industrial. Andrew is involved in the day to day account management of national accounts, is involved in the rail division and looks after the residual value valuations on behalf of our fleet leasing clients.

Aiden Hsu – Regional Executive, Insolvency & Banking (BDM)

Aiden brings 13 years of both national and international experience gained from the professional services industry and the banking sector, with a focus on corporate advisory and restructuring, finance structuring, asset realisation, debt sales, credit decisioning, stakeholder and relationship management. Through a career at McGrath Nicol and the National Australia Bank covering various industries including transport, retail, property, manufacturing, automotive, government, dairy, textiles, investment and debt securitisation he provides valuable industry insights and complete asset management solutions tailored towards each clients’ requirements. Aiden is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant (ICAA).
